The Spiritual Eclipse

April 12, 2024
The sun will no more be your light by day,
nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
~Isaiah 60:19

Dear Church Family,

This week I had the opportunity to experience the totality of the solar eclipse. To witness this
spectacular cosmic event was amazing. As we sat and watched the sun (with our NASA
approved glasses!) we saw the sun become completely obstructed. Everything was dark, the
temperature dropped, the birds stopped signing and the people gasped!

The powerful sun was dimmed. This is the same sun that burned my skin the day before. The sun
that rises each morning and offers its light. The same sun that helps the plants to grow and
animals to survive. For more than four minutes, that same sun was completely obstructed, unable
to do any of the things that it was meant to do.

There are things in our lives that block us from being who we are created to be. There are things
in our lives that cause a spiritual eclipse. We might be on the same path that we have been on
and find ourselves blocked. This just happens from time to time.

Understanding what those things are that block us from being who we are created to be is vital.
Learning how to navigate them is part of our spiritual discipleship. What is it that blocks you
from being who God created you to be?

Sometimes it can be behaviors that we do or that we do not do. Maybe it’s spending too much
time on things that are not an important part of the Kingdom of God and too little time on the
things that we are actually meant to spend time doing.

Take the time to assess what might be blocking you. Look to see if you are experiencing a
spiritual eclipse. And then, get out from behind that. If you want to talk about what might be
blocking you or how to get out from behind it, I’d love to talk with you.

May the LORD be your everlasting light, and your glory.

You are loved, you are cherished, you are a child of God.

See you Sunday,
Pastor Caroline
