Dr. James King

Senior Pastor

Jim has pastored Baptist churches for his entire adult life. While in seminary he served a small congregation in the horse country of Kentucky. His first full-time church was in a recreational lake community near Columbia, South Carolina. He followed that in a county seat First Baptist Church and then a large urban church in Atlanta. He now considers himself blessed beyond measure to be able to serve among the wonderful people of the family of faith at Parkway.

Jim is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and continues to be a proud member of the Gamecock nation. He holds two masters degrees and a Ph.D. from the former Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been active in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship since its beginning.

In addition to serving as our pastor, Jim is a teaching supervisor for the Contextual Education Program at Candler School of Theology, Emory University.

Jim met his wife, Linda, at the First Baptist Church of Columbia, SC while they were in college. They have been married for forty-five years and have three adult children and three grandchildren.

Through the churches Jim has served he has been privileged to travel for missions experiences in the Bahamas, India, Indonesia, South Africa and Bolivia. He has also led groups to Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Greece.

During his spare time he enjoys fishing, reading, and travel.
