We are seeking an Associate Pastor, Youth Ministry. This part-time position oversees the spiritual development of middle and high school students in a small, moderate, Baptist church under the leadership and supervision of the Senior Pastor. POSITION: 

Associate Pastor, Youth Ministry 

Part-time, salaried position, approximately 10-15 hours/week

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: 

The Associate Pastor, Youth Ministry, oversees the spiritual development of middle and high school students in the context of a family-integrated, cross-generational approach to ministry. The core function of this position will be the oversight and leadership of the Youth Ministry, encouraging middle and high school students to establish a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and become all that God has called them to be. 

Parkway provides the Associate Pastor with the chance to serve in a small, moderate, Baptist church under the leadership and supervision of the Senior Pastor and in conjunction with other staff members, including the Director of Preschool & Children’s Ministries, as well at the Youth Committee. The Associate Pastor will have the unique opportunity to experience all aspects of church leadership and ministry, including leading in worship each week and providing the sermon on occasions when the Senior Pastor is out of the pulpit. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide effective leadership to the youth ministry in keeping with the overall ministry plan of the congregation.
  • Lead youth Bible Study on Sunday mornings and provide guidance to other youth ministry teachers and outreach leaders.
  • Prepare and lead a mid-week Bible Study experience for the youth.
  • Plan and supervise events that balance fellowship, missions, discipleship, and outreach.
  • Plan and conduct special events throughout the year (Passport camp in the summer, retreats, student-led worship services, holiday parties, etc.)
  • Attend and encourage youth participation in church wide mission, recreation, and social events.
  • Provide periodic opportunities for the youth to participate in hands-on mission experiences.
  • Provide support and counsel to youth and/or parents and make appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Attend various school/community events in which the youth are involved, whenever possible.
  • Develop and coordinate fund-raising opportunities for the youth ministry.
  • Cultivate relationships with prospective youth and their families.
  • Regularly attend weekly staff meetings, monthly Youth Committee meetings, quarterly Church Council, and quarterly business meetings.
  • Lead in worship services as requested.
  • Various other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Consideration will be given to all who apply. Preference may be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university and a master’s degree from an accredited school of theology. 
  • Must have knowledge and skill in the principles of spiritual formation.
  • Must possess administrative and organizational skills as well as the ability to utilize current technology in communicating and teaching.
  • Must have the ability to maintain good rapport with church members, staff, and the community.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and conflict management skills.
