PENTECOST AND BEYOND

Sunday, May 31, is known in the Christian world as Pentecost Sunday. Coming fifty days after Easter, it commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first disciples, but also recognizes that the Spirit works in and through the body of Christ on earth, the Church, today.

For the remainder of the Church year, the focus moves from what God did through Christ to what God continues to do in the life of the Church. This is a period of practical application of the truths taught by Jesus to how we live in the world. Ordinary time (so called because it is marked by ordinal numerals) fills the remainder of the year until Advent. This season emphasizes the life of the church and the reality of the world around us, with awareness of God’s presence in all times and places.

These are the titles and texts of sermons that we will be sharing together during this last, lengthy period of the year, until we celebrate the reality of Jesus coming again at Advent.
