Live to Love

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind

came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated

and came to rest on each of them.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit

and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Acts 2:1-4

On Sunday, May 19 th we will celebrate Pentecost in the church. Scripture tells us that Jesus had
explained to the disciples that the Holy Spirit would come from God. He said that it would be a
helper to us and that it will be with us forever. Jesus explained that the Holy Spirit is God’s
presence with us, living within us, so that we can know God.

When the Holy Spirit came that first time to the disciples, there was great power and energy.
Everyone was filled with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit helped everyone to understand.
That’s what Holy Spirit does. The Holy Spirit helps everyone to understand because there is
not a single person that is not meant to hear the good news that God loves them. The Holy
Spirit helps everyone to understand and we should do what we can to help bring
understanding as well. This news of the love of God is too important for people to miss out
on it and the best way to help people understand is through our actions.

The Holy Spirit also brings everyone together. And this is what we are to do as well. As
followers of Jesus we are to bring people together. This might be easy with people that have
friendships, but it might be more difficult with those who are not. Beloved community is
critical as we have discussed so many times before. We are all in this together, dependent
on one another.

The Holy Spirit brings great power even now. The power to bring understanding. The
power to bring people together. It’s a great power that can only happen through love.
Receive the power of the Holy Spirit; the power to love.
