Inheriting the Kingdom

Inheriting the Kingdom

Come, you who are blessed by my Father,

inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world,

for I was hungry and you gave me food,

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,

I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

I was naked and you gave me clothing,

I was sick and you took care of me,

I was in prison and you visited me.’

Matthew 25:34-36

On Sunday, June 1 st , a delegation from Parkway will head down to the Texas border. We will
visit with local pastors and community members. We will visit border patrol, immigration court
and mission projects. We will visit with our Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel who
live and work there. We will read scripture together, pray together and have time for fellowship.

We are going so that we can better understand what is happening at the border. We hope to
experience the realities of the communities there and to dispel any false understandings we might
have. We are going so that we can witness what God is doing at the border through people there.
And we are going so that we can better understand how Parkway can respond to God’s call for us
to welcome the stranger among us.

Jesus issued a call for all of those who are blessed by God to inherit the Kingdom. He explains
that we inherit the Kingdom of God as we reach out and respond to those in need. We inherit the
Kingdom of God when we embrace the vulnerable and care for the hurting. As disciples, this is
what we strive to do and we want to do it to the best of our ability.

So, as we travel, please pray for this Parkway delegation. Pray for safety for the group. Pray that
we might come away with a better understanding of what God is doing through the people there.
Pray that we can then help communicate the experience to the church so that we as a church
might better understand what God is asking us to do.

We go with you in our hearts and on our minds because we are the body of Christ together.
