From the Student Ministry

Last week the student ministry finished up 110 hygiene kits for Crossroads Community Ministry. This is the ministry I’ve been serving with during my Clinical Pastoral Education internship. We serve the homeless by helping them get their birth certificates, Georgia identification cards, Marta cards for jobs and employment interviews, and getting the referrals for clothes and food. Sometimes churches and groups will donate hygiene kits to be given away to our clients, but there are not always enough.

I told the students about this and they wanted to help, so the last month and a half we have been collecting items for the kits. Some of our students have gotten their classmates from school to help and we were able to make 110 kits! I am so proud of the dedication and service of our students and their families. They have given so much so that others may feel human again.

During this time of collecting the items we have been discussing how we are supposed to serve. I think we are all realizing that there are many more opportunities to serve others than we ever noticed; we just have to take the time to look around. My eyes have been opened to the depth of the plight of homelessness and I can only pray that I’ve been able to show some of that to our students so we can all serve as our Savior served.
