Christmas Opportunities

Christmas has become part of our culture’s calendar and consciousness. It became an official Federal holiday way back in 1870. In 2017 the Pew Research Center reported that “Even among religious ‘nones,’ fully 85% say they celebrate the holiday. (https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2017/12/12/americans-say-religious-aspects-of-christmas-are-declining-in-public-life/)”

Because of this, people with little or no church background may be more open to attending a Christmas-focused worship service. It is a great opportunity to invite people you know, who are not involved in a faith community, to attend a service at Parkway Baptist. The three services described below offer excellent seasonal experiences for those unfamiliar with Christian origins of Christmas. Think of your circle of friends and consider inviting them to attend one of these services with you.

  • Hanging of the Green – Sunday, December 3, Morning Worship, 11AM

This service includes familiar symbols of the season with brief meditations and familiar carols and Christmas songs.

  • O Holy Light: a Cantata for Christmas presented by the Sanctuary Choir – Sunday, December 10, Morning Worship, 11AM

This service blends both music and narrative to convey the events leading up to Christ’s birth. Familiar melodies are paired with seasonal texts focusing on the traditional themes of Advent: hope, peace, joy, love, and Christ’s birth.

  • Christmas Eve Service – Sunday, December 24, 5PM

This service features the biblical Christmas story, familiar carols, and a candle lighting conclusion with everyone singing Silent Night.
