From the Pastor

One of the innumerable positive traits about the Parkway family is your generosity beyond our own church. Through our relationship with several ministry partners, you have demonstrated that your concern for meeting the needs of the people around you and sharing the gospel through love is often best carried out through the financial support, prayer, and encouragement of ministries that are focused on particular places or groups.

This spring you have done an admirable job of offering support for Duluth Middle School by supplying gift cards to be given by counselors to families in need and by your support of Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries in their efforts to keep families in difficult financial situations in their homes or apartments.

For several years now you have taken a personal interest in the work of Kristy Engel, a nurse practitioner and missionary with International Ministries of American Baptist Churches. It was obviously God’s doing when Kristy came to Atlanta to be close to an international airport and found Parkway. As soon as you learned of her work in establishing clinics, working in global medical crises, and supporting American Baptist missionaries around the world, you started finding creative ways to help.

It was through Kristy that we found a connection with the House of Hope in Cochabamba, Bolivia that has resulted in a great level of support for that work, through financial gifts, mission trips, and encouragement of the missionaries there.

Frankly, had it not been for Kristy, our mission horizons would not have been expanded to work with International Ministries. We probably would have been content with the partnerships already in place. But we have gotten to participate in creative ministries that we would not have otherwise been aware of because of this connection.

And this work has been recognized by International Ministries. About a month ago I received a letter from Sharon Koh, Executive Director of IM, thanking us for our support. The letter reads in part:

“Your congregation is a leader in generous support for overseas mission! It is my pleasure to recognize you for your generosity in 2020, which qualifies you for inclusion in the Luther Rice Society (LRS). You are among the top ten percent of congregations, foundations, and organizations giving to International Ministries for the year.”

Later in the letter, she says “Thank you from our global servants and international partners for making global mission possible. And thank you for sharing the gospel and for serving the needs around the world in practical ways. Your selfless and sacrificial giving this past year is tremendously encouraging to us all.”

I am proud of you for so many things, but one of the most important is your support of missions. Keep up the good work!
