Thinking of Autumn

Favorite Season

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. The air becomes crisper and drier, leaves start to show their true colors, college football begins, and apples and peanuts are in season. Notice I did not mention pumpkin spice at all in this list. Autumn also has two of my favorite holidays: Halloween and Thanksgiving. I know the celebration of Halloween has questionable origins, but as a child I loved making a costume, dressing up, and collecting candy from the neighbors. It just gets better with Thanksgiving. Families get together, lots of great food is cooked, overeating is expected, and there is more football.

While anticipating the joys of Autumn, I wondered what hymns spoke to the seasons, particularly the time of Fall. After some consideration and exploration, I came up with the following list of hymns that speak of the seasons and/or the beauty of creation. I find these hymns especially meaningful at this time of year. Are you familiar with all the hymns on my list? What would your favorite Autumn hymns be?
