Hymns Used In 2018

Hymnary.org reports that the “. . . song on Hymnary.org that is viewed more often than any other is Reginald Heber’s Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Published in 1826, this hymn of praise to the Trinity is set to the tune NICAEA, written for this hymn and named after the council at Nicaea where the doctrine of the Trinity was established and the Nicene Creed formulated.”

In looking back at our hymn singing at Parkway Baptist Church in 2018, we sang 108 different hymns. For comparison, in 2017, we sang 103 different hymns. The hymns we sang most frequently in 2018 were the following: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah; Love Divine, All Loves Excelling; and Praise to the Lord, the Almighty. We sang each of these hymns four times during the year.

Are you surprised that we sang that many different hymns in 2018 or surprised we did not sing a greater variety of hymns? If you have a hymn that has meaning for you that we have not sung lately, let me know what it is. I will be sure to make note of it and do my best to get it into an appropriate worship service.

For those who might be interested, below is a listing of the hymns we sang three times and two times during 2018.
