Prepare to Be

March 25, 2022

Throughout our season of Lent, we are considering the seven last words of Christ spoken from the cross as recorded in our gospel texts. We are considering these words:

know, truth, here, forsaken,

thirsty, finished, commend.

This is not an easy task as some of these words are difficult for us to hear, difficult for us to face. But we are preparing ourselves to stand before the mystery of Easter. We are preparing ourselves to embrace the mystery. We want to enter into our Easter season in such a way that we are prepared to fully embrace the mystery and together we will BELIEVE.

During this season of Lent, we are spending this time in the lonely wilderness to ensure that there is nothing left of our will but that all we are pursuing is God’s will. We are living through a critical time in the life of our church; and we are preparing ourselves to follow God’s leading in some new and exciting directions.

So again, I ask you as a part of this body of Christ to commit yourselves to journeying to the cross this Lenten season. I ask you to commit to setting aside this time leading up to Easter to focus on Jesus and the sacrifice made for each of us.

There is a cost to discipleship. There is sacrifice to be made. That sacrifice includes our time, our financial resources, our talents and gifts that we have been blessed with, our relationships and even our desire to make the church into what we perceive it should be. This season of Lent is a time to surrender all of that so that we can embrace what God has for us.

Discipleship requires commitment and dedication. It means letting go of other things in our lives that are not a part of our relationship with God.

Allow God to prepare you for the future of our church so that we can be the church that God has called us to be, together!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Caroline
