Do you know what you want? I don’t think it’s too hard to make a decision and get what I need. Unless I go to Starbucks, that is. A good trip to Starbucks is just what I need to make me feel like I have no idea what it is I really want in life.
When I go to Starbucks, I walk in the door wanting to order my decaf cappuccino. But then I see the list of blends and try to first decide on which blend I want.
I mean, do I want the Veranda blend, or the Kenya African blend, maybe the Sumatra blend, or French roast, then there is Breakfast blend or the Brazil Latin American blend. If I can make it through that blend selection, I feel I can confidently step up to the counter and place my order. But then the barista always has a follow-up.
What size would you like? Would you like demi, short, tall, grande, venti, trenta? I’ll panic a little, but I’ll respond with, “tall”. But then there is a follow up: any flavoring to that? There’s vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, hazelnut, toffee nut, peppermint, raspberry and “classic” …don’t ask me what that is. Um …I don’t know. Then there is a follow up: “any milk?”. Yes, I want milk. But then, there is a follow up. Would you like whole, nonfat, 2%, soy, coconut or almond milk. Really?
Do you know what you want? Jesus asks us the question: What do you want me to do for you?
What do you want? What is it that you want Jesus to do for you? As faithful followers of Jesus, we need to know what we want. Jesus asked a blind man the same thing. The blind knew what he wanted. He wanted to see.
Jesus brings sight to the blind, do you want to see?
…And that’s our Moment of Truth!
