“If we are saved by grace and not by works, why do good works?” Working with children, especially intelligent children, means being prepared to answer questions like this to their satisfaction. Doing missions isn’t easy. It requires hard work. So, why do we do so much, so often?
The best answer I could give is that if you love God, you want to do good works. You are filled with His love and you want to share that love in any way that you can. Doing good works may not be required to enter heaven, but it definitely brings us closer to our creator. The blessings received by participating in missions is so much greater than the physical work or the time given.
On Saturday, October 5, our children will once again have the opportunity to participate in a day of service with our church family. The children will help carry the food items to the cars for transport to Norcross Cooperative Ministry. While the adults are transporting the food and stocking the shelves at Norcross Co-Op, the children will remain here at Parkway with me to prepare the books that we are donating to Children’s Healthcare. We will put notes from Parkway in the books, box them up, pray for the children who will receive them, and prepare them to be delivered to the intensive care unit at Scottish Rite.
I hope that you will put this date on your calendar and make every effort to attend!
We also have two relationship building events in October. On Saturday, October 19 all children are invited to join Dr. King and myself at Sugarloaf Mills Mall. The older children will attempt to escape from a Mystery Room with Dr. King and the younger children will go to Jump Street with me. We will all meet in the Food Court for lunch.
On Wednesday, October 30, we will have our annual Trunk or Treat Event. We will need lots of volunteers to provide decorated trunks with candy and to staff the jump houses, crafts, games and food stations. Please look for signups in your Sunday School attendance books and in the narthex. This is a great time to invite friends and neighbors to come and get to know us!
If you did not get a chance to look at the items left by the Weekday Preschool Ministry that we are giving away, there is still time. We have a lot of items left. Some would make great stocking stuffers for Christmas. Please call me and schedule a time to come by and take a look!
