Experience the Freedom

May 24, 2024

Dear Faith Family,

Summer! Isn’t it wonderful! I love the way things slow down, kids play outside and the days
are longer. The flowers and trees are showing off and the birds are quite noisy.
The kids are out of school for the summer. They finished up all their tests, had their end of
year parties and cleaned out their desks. They are homework free, test free and alarm clock
free.

I remember that feeling and I can’t help but be a little jealous of them. Do you remember
that feeling? That carefree feeling; you have nothing to do and all day to it. I think it’s a
feeling you always remember, even if you cannot recapture it.

I was talking with someone a few months ago about that feeling. We were reminiscing
about it and wondering why it is so difficult for adults to experience that feeling. We
decided that it’s about responsibility. As a kid, when school ends, so does a lot of
responsibility. Sure, there are chores and summer assignments but those are done on your
own schedule.

Adults just don’t have the luxury of fully relinquishing responsibility. But if you think about
it, it is because adults hold responsibility that kids can have that feeling of freedom. I
cannot have that feeling but I can help my kids to have it.

I said adults don’t have the luxury of fully relinquishing responsibility, but we can
experience that freedom more than we allow ourselves to experience it. God is our loving
parent; the one who holds the responsibility so that you might have that feeling of freedom.
God wants nothing more than for you to let go and leave it to God. So let go …take the walk,
visit with the friend and know that God’s got this.

May you let go and experience the freedom that you long for through the love of Christ.
You are loved. You are cherished. You are a child of God.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Caroline

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,

what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.

For life is more than food and the body more than clothing.

Consider the ravens:

they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn,

and yet God feeds them.

Of how much more value are you than the birds!”

Luke 12:22-24
