Reading the Gospel of Mark gives a clear picture of Jesus that shows he was constantly confounding expectations, breaking accepted standards of behavior, and giving instructions counter to everything his hearers already believed. It is also clear he expects us to follow his example. During the summer we will look at events in the life of Jesus to see how he “got into trouble,” at least with the powers of the age, and examine how our own close following of him should lead us to face similar issues. We will be challenged to move beyond our own timid behavior and be bold in following the Master.
