It is hard to believe that summer vacation is over and the children are back in school!  We have already begun our 2018-2019 Wednesday night Children’s Choir schedule. In September, we will begin our Wednesday night Children’s “Growing in Faith” rotation.

On the first Wednesday of each month the children will join me for an extension of this summer’s Art Camp.  During this time the children will explore their faith through art, music, movement and drama.

The second Wednesday of each month will offer the children a time to grow according to their age and gender.  Our kindergarten students will meet with Jan Mitchell and Lorie Gaskins to learn about missions. Our first through sixth grade girls will meet with me to study the book, The Confidence Code for Girls.  First through sixth grade boys will meet with Dr. King to study the book, The Kid Warrior.

Third Wednesdays of the month will bring everyone back together to explore God’s world through Bible Science.

On the fourth Wednesday of each month, we will explore the character of God through the study, Getting to Know God.

In January and May, we have a fifth Wednesday and will use that time to do one of the children’s favorite activities, cooking!

Children are under tremendous stress at school, beginning in kindergarten.  Patricia Polocco, one of my favorite children’s authors, shared a quote by L.R. Knost, “When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not join their chaos.”  I hope that by providing a variety of activities on Wednesday night that are not just “sit down, be quiet and listen”, but get up, move around, explore and speak, our children will find calm and enjoyment at Parkway that will give them something to look forward to on Wednesday nights and not something that they “have” to do.  In the process of moving around, exploring, and talking, it is always our goal to help our children grow in their faith and grow in their personal relationship with God.
